About Us

The Maddux School is a small, supportive, private school dedicated to providing high-quality early childhood education for Pre-K and elementary school ages. Our students often come to us with prior experiences of language or social challenges, and we offer a nurturing, highly individualized environment where they can thrive.

With a total student body of under 55 children, our low student-to-teacher ratio and transdisciplinary classroom teams allow us to tailor instruction and support to each child’s needs. We work closely with families to guide students through each grade and prepare them for successful transitions to future academic settings.

A History of Growth

Founded in 2004 as The Katherine Maddux Early Learning Center with one preschool class of eight children, we’ve grown thoughtfully over the years. Today, we offer Pre-Kindergarten through Second Grade—and beginning in the 2026-27 school year, we will expand to include Third Grade, with plans to grow through Fifth Grade in the coming years. Throughout this growth, we remain deeply committed to our close-knit community of educators and families who share a passion for joyful, meaningful learning.

Licensed and Supported

The Maddux School is independently licensed by the Maryland State Department of Education and the Maryland State Office of Child Care. We operate under the administrative auspices of Ivymount Corporation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization.
